Losses (First 72 Hours Guaranteed)

At Hatchery Farm Store® we work hard to ensure your birds arrive healthy and safely. Although losses during transit are uncommon, we cover any losses reported within the first 72 hours after arrival.

If losses occur, you may choose one of the following remedies:

  • Refund for the lost bird(s)
  • Credit toward a future purchase
  • Replacement shipment at no charge

If you prefer replacements, we will ship them free of charge, but shipments must meet our minimum order requirements. We do not apply minimum-order fees; however, you may need to add birds to meet required shipping minimums.

Minimum Shipment Requirements

  • 3 Ducklings
  • 2 Goslings
  • 6 Chickens
  • 6 Guineas
  • 4 Turkeys

To report losses, please record the breed, sex, quantity, and time of the loss and contact us during business hours at 1-800-424-7755. Refunds to credit cards are processed promptly; however, it may take several days for the refund to appear on your statement depending on your bank.

Order Cancellations

We understand plans change. You may cancel your order at any time prior to your scheduled ship date.

  • Full refund: Cancel on or before the Friday prior to your ship week.
  • Same-day cancellation: Cancels on the day of shipment incur a $10 cancellation fee due to the difficulty of intercepting outbound poultry shipments.

You may also cancel online via your Hatchery Farm Store® account anytime before the ship date to receive an automatic full refund.

Bird Life Insurance

For added peace of mind, we offer One-Year Bird Life Insurance at $8.45 per bird. This policy covers your bird for any loss, for any reason, for one year from the original shipping date.

Insurance Benefits

  • One-time replacement of the same breed (no refunds).
  • Replacement shipped free of charge.
  • Coverage valid for one year from the original ship date.
  • Minimum shipment requirements still apply for replacement shipments.

If only a single insured bird is lost and cannot be shipped alone, we will include two free hatchery-select ducklings so the replacement shipment meets the minimum of three ducklings. Insurance redemptions are replacements only and do not provide monetary refunds.

To file an insurance claim, call our support team and provide the order number and details of the loss. Replacement shipments can be scheduled within the same calendar year the loss is reported.
