Blue Swedish Ducks
$8.25
The Blue Swedish is a medium-weight, calm duck, similar in size to the Rouen, and is very hardy. They are fairly fast-growing, good foragers, and have good-quality meat. In breeding, it is tricky to maintain the blue coloration. If you breed a Blue Swedish to a Blue Swedish, half will stay blue, while a quarter will turn more black, and the other quarter a lighter silver gray. This breed is domestic, meaning it cannot fly. All our ducks make great pets except the Mallard.

Blue Swedish Ducks for Sale
The Blue Swedish Duck is a calm, hardy, and versatile medium-weight breed that is well suited for homesteads, farms, and backyard flocks. Comparable in size to the Rouen, Blue Swedish ducks are valued for their excellent meat quality, steady egg production, and adaptable nature.
Originating in Germany during a period of Swedish control, this breed has become a favorite among poultry keepers for its cold hardiness and reliable performance in a wide range of climates. Blue Swedish ducks are fairly fast growers and strong foragers, making them an efficient and economical choice for free-range or pasture-based systems.
One of the most distinctive features of this breed is its striking blue plumage. However, maintaining the blue coloration through breeding requires care. When Blue Swedish ducks are bred to each other, approximately 50% of the offspring retain the blue color, while about 25% turn black and the remaining 25% develop a lighter silver-gray shade. This natural color variation adds visual interest and is a well-known trait of the breed.
As a fully domestic duck, the Blue Swedish cannot fly, making it easy to manage in fenced or open environments. They have a calm and friendly disposition, which also makes them suitable as pet ducks. Like all of our ducks, they are well suited for companionship, with the exception of the Mallard.
Blue Swedish hens lay 120 to 180 large white or gray-white eggs per year, offering a balance between egg production and meat utility. Recognized by the American Poultry Association (APA) and classified as a heritage breed, the Blue Swedish is a dependable, time-tested duck breed with both practical and ornamental appeal.
